Racing fans start your engines! If you are planning a trip to Texas, one of the places you must visit is the Texas Motor Speedway. There are events scheduled there all throughout the year, not just when there is a race weekend. Tickets for upcoming NASCAR events are on sale now through the speedway website or by calling the speedway. These tickets are for next year’s events. While the drivers are off to other raceways, visitors to Texas can get a driving experience. Take your car on the track to find out what the drivers feel while they are driving. You can also take a tour of the speedway and see all the behind the scenes activities that you don’t get to see on television.
The speedway supports many local charities. Most of the money that is raised for Speedway Children’s Charities is brought in on race weekends, so go and support the kids in the area and see who wins the race at the same time. Several retired drivers offer their skills to people who want to visit the speedway. You can take a trip around the speedway with Dale Jarrett, Richard Petty or one of the other drivers who happen to be there at the time of your visit. The best time to visit the speedway is in the fall and winter. The weather is cooler, and the thunderstorms are not as prominent as they are in the spring and summer. There are souvenir stores all through the track for people to stock up on gifts for themselves as well as for other people. One of the other series that races at the track is Lonestar Legends. This group consists of more than 20 antique cars that are made for racing. Visit the website of Texas Motor Speedway to get directions to the track and hours of operation, and race on in for a great time!

Some of the museums located in Fort Worth’s cultural district, just outside the downtown area, include:

1) The Modern Museum of Art, in a building designed by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando, is the state’s oldest art Continue Reading »

The Dallas / Fort Worth Connection

17
Dec

Even though the two cities are a mere 33 miles apart and a short 40 minute drive (depending on traffic) from each other, there’s a world of difference between the two, and each one will make no bones about it should it ever come up in conversation. The point being: you should probably not bring it up in conversation that you’re from Dallas if you’re visiting Fort Worth. The rivalry has been going on for decades, and even songwriters Sanger and Darlene Shafer made the opposition clear in their song recorded by George Straight, Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind?

Cold Fort Worth beer just ain’t no good for jealous.I try it night after night. You’re in someone else’s arms in Dallas.Does Fort Worth ever cross your mind?Darlin’ while you’re busy burning bridges,Burn one for me if you get time.’Cause good memories don’t fade so easy.Does Fort Worth ever cross you mind? You left me here to be with him in Dallas,And I know it hurt you at the time. But I wonder now if it makes a difference.Does Fort Worth ever cross your mind? You left me here to be with him in Dallas,And I know it hurt you at the time. But I wonder now if it makes a difference.Does Fort Worth ever cross your mind?Does Fort Worth ever, does Fort Worth ever,Does Fort Worth ever cross your mind?

Those lyrics would have any Fort Worth cowboy defending his turf, wouldn’t they?
